Dorchester Man Charged In Death Of Quincy Father Who Was Trying To Break Up Fight

BOSTON (CBS) - A 23-year-old Dorchester man is accused of killing a Quincy father who was trying to break up a fight in April.

Brian Hingston, a 44-year-old father of three, died after the incident behind an Adams Street bakery. A Grand Jury has indicted Bryan McElhinney on charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault and battery.

Police say McElhinney and Hingston were with a group of friends celebrating a birthday when two other people they were with started fighting.

According to the District Attorney, "The investigation further revealed that McElhinney joined in the fight and struck another man. At this point, the evidence suggests, Hingston attempted to intervene and McElhinney struck him once in the face. Hingston fell to the ground, hit his head, and never regained consciousness."

McElhinney will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on July 8.

A GoFundMe page for Hingston has raised more than $90,000 in two months.
