Xander Bogaerts Extends Hitting Streak To 23 Games

BOSTON (CBS) -- Another streak continues for the Boston Red Sox.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts extended his hitting streak to 23 games on Monday afternoon, roping an RBI double in the third inning against the Baltimore Orioles to put Boston on top 2-0 at the time. It was his 270th hit since the start of the 2015 season, which leads all of baseball.

Bogaerts followed it up with another double in the top of the fifth inning, his 18th of the season. Monday was the 22nd multi-hit game of the season for Bogaerts, who leads the American League with a .355 batting average.

The Boston shortstop has now hit safely in 35 of his last 37 games. His 23-game hit streak is the second-longest of the 2016, trailing only Jackie Bradley Jr.'s 29-game hit streak, which came to an end last week. Boston is the first team in American League history to have multiple players with hitting streaks of at least 20 games prior to June 1, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
