Maine Authorities Looking For Person Who Shot And Killed Bald Eagle

AUGUSTA, Maine (CBS) — Maine's Game Wardens are seeking the public's help in finding the person who shot dead a bald eagle last month.

A sportsman found the adult female bird dead beside a logging road east of Moosehead Lake on April 15, according to Maine Warden Service Cpl. John MacDonald.

It's likely the bird was killed in early April, MacDonald said in a public statement.

 

The bald eagle is federally protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Killing a bald eagle could be considered a felony that carries a penalty of up to two years imprisonment and $250,000 fine.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to a conviction.
