Boxboro Police Arrest Fugitive On The Run For Nearly 20 Years

BOXBORO (CBS) – Officers in Boxboro arrested a man who has evaded police for nearly 20 years after allegedly holding two men, two women and two children at knife-point inside a Connecticut home.

Jose Manuel Blanco-Dominguez of Lawrence was stopped Saturday around 7:45 a.m. when an officer ran his car's registration plate and it came back with a man wanted on an NCIC warrant.

Boxboro Police say Blanco-Dominguez tried to give Sgt. Brett Pelley one of his several aliases, but it was determined he was the subject of the warrant and he was arrested as a fugitive from justice.

Police say on June 25, 1997, Blanco-Dominguez and three other masked men held several people at knife-point.

Following a 30-minute standoff with Connecticut police officers, three people were arrested. Police say Blanco-Dominguez jumped out a window, ran into the woods, and was not caught until nearly two decades later.

"Today's arrest is a fine example of outstanding police work by the Boxborough Police Department," Police Chief Warren Ryder said. "A less experienced officer may have mistaken the suspect's alias as valid, but thanks to the smart detective work by a seasoned law enforcement veteran like Sgt. Pelley, we were able to take this dangerous individual into custody."

Blanco-Dominguez is being held without bail until his appearance at Ayer District Court, where a determination will be made on extradition.
