Former MIT Student Indicted On Rape Charges For Attack In BU Dorm

BOSTON (CBS) -- Police have arrested a man in connection with a reported rape in a Boston University dorm room in October 2015.

Samson Donick, 20, of Tiburon, California, is facing charges of aggravated rape, breaking and entering at night with the intent to commit a felony, burglary, and indecent assault and battery.

Donick was a student at MIT at the time of the attack, and a forward on the MIT Engineers basketball team.

Donick and three other men were granted access to a dorm building called StuVi2 on Harry Agganis Way around 2 a.m. on October 18, 2015, by two females who lived in the building. None of the men were Boston University students.

Donick and another man left the suite in search of another female student, the DA's office said. They allegedly entered about 10 different dorm rooms on four different floors while looking for her.

A 20-year-old student woke up to find Donick in her room sexually assaulting her, according to the DA's office, which also said Donick fled when she screamed. The victim reported the incident, prompting the school to send out a campus-wide alert.

Months later, students tell WBZ-TV they are still shocked by the incident.

"I mean it's really scary to think about that anyone can come in and you thought you were safe and it really it shows that you're not," said Boston University student Nancy Mendez.

Investigators matched surveillance footage of the dorm to the two men, along with their ID information that they gave to the security desk when they entered. Police said the second man was not involved in the assault and is not facing charges.

In a statement, MIT said Donick is not currently registered at the school. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Suffolk District Court.
