Keller @ Large: Expect A Nasty General Election

BOSTON (CBS) - Yes, anything could happen in Tuesday's Indiana primary. Ted Cruz could stage a miracle comeback and beat Donald Trump. Bernie Sanders might well beat Hillary Clinton.

But in the meantime, the general election campaign is already underway, let's face it. And you can tell what it's going to be like.

Obviously, the long-range forecast is for dirty, with intermittent filthiness.

Trump has made it clear he will wallow in the Clinton-era scandals, almost surely appearing on a campaign stage with a Miss USA Pageant-like parade of Bill's alleged former girlfriends. Perhaps he'll set them up with VIP seats at the debates.

And any day now you'll be seeing the start of an endless series of ads from Clinton and her allies showcasing the countless tabloid moments in Trump's personal and professional life.

By voting day you will understand fully what the term "feet of clay" means.

For flat-out name-calling, I give Trump the early edge.

After test-marketing "Incompetent Hillary" in March, he has settled on "Crooked Hillary," and I suspect far worse is on the way. The Clinton campaign would be wise not to scoff; from the way Trump's fans chant "Lyin' Ted" at his rallies, it seems schoolyard nicknames are in vogue this year.

Speaking of the debates, oh boy, those are going to be interesting.

This will need a moderator who's incredibly tough and strong, capable of inspiring fear in these two and bringing them to heel.

But the question is – would Beyonce be available?
