WBZ Weather Madness: The Elite Eight

I can't believe how close yesterday's matchups were! The Ice Storm of 2008 beat out the Perfect Storm of '91 by a mere 2% and the margin was just as close with the next match up with the Floods of 2006 coming out on top.

So it's on to our "Elite 8". The first two divisions are a battle of the blizzards.

We start with two decades old snowstorms going head to head.

The next contest features recent historic blizzards, both within the last 3 years.

Our third duel is between two unforgettable Hurricanes.

And our last quarterfinal "game" might be a tougher decision since we're not comparing apples to apples.

For a brief recap of each weather event, see the previous WBZ Weather Madness blogs. Now, you know what to do! I'll be posting the results Monday morning before we move on to the Final Four.

Until then, it's all about the warmth and wind today. A high wind warning is in effect until 9 PM for southwest wind gusts up to 60 mph that may result in pockets of damage over southeast MA & Boston Proper. A wind advisory is in effect for the rest of eastern & central MA for gusts to 50 and isolated damage. Showers, downpours and even a few thunderstorms will push through tomorrow before relatively cooler air arrives on Saturday.  The front may slow down enough to allow for some lingering pockets of rain early Saturday, especially in southeastern MA.

After that, a BIG pattern shift is the main headline. Areas of snow are possible Saturday night into Sunday morning as a quick moving disturbance comes through.  Behind it, winter cold makes a return with highs only in the 30s from Sunday through the middle part of next week. We'll also be tracking another potential for some accumulating snow late Monday into Tuesday.  I know…exactly what you want to hear as we flip the calendar to April.
