Patriots Update 'Wells Report In Context' With Nearly 8,000 Words On 'Myths Of DeflateGate'

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Patriots won't let DeflateGate die any more than the NFL will. The team continues to update their website The Wells Report In Context, adding yet another post to defend themselves against the league. The newest, 7,978-word treatise is entitled "The Background and Myths of 'DeflateGate' - Separating Fact From Fiction."

The post, ostensibly written by Patriots team lawyers, delves deep into the details of the 2014 AFC Championship Game - ground zero for the insufferable "saga" that is DeflateGate. The 15 "myths" aim to debunk arguments made by the NFL in the DeflateGate case, which could yet become a legal victory for the league.

The first six "myths" concern the accuracy and reliability of the NFL's procedures in gauging, preparing, and measuring the footballs before the game, during halftime, and after the game. Myths 7-9 concern the texts and behavior of John Jastremski and Jim McNally leading up to the game. Myths 10-14 concern Tom Brady and his actions leading up to the game, including communication with Jastremski and McNally. The fifteenth and final "myth" lists 11 reasons why the NFL had a "predisposition against the Patriots" throughout the case.

The blistering "Conclusion" section eviscerates the league for its "lack of transparency," the "dubious conclusions and methodology" of the Wells Report, and the league's use of the Wells Report as a "piece of advocacy" to support "predetermined conclusions" in an effort to punish the Patriots. It slyly works in a reference to "general awareness" on the part of the NFL and the science of PSI, and turns the tables on the league in accusing it of compromising the integrity of the game.

I only gave the post a quick perusal to get the gist; read the whole thing here. I'm going to let Senior DeflateGate Correspondent Michael Hurley handle a more in-depth look at it.
