Free-Agent WR Rod Streater Expected To Get Offer From Patriots, Visit Jets

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots could be on the verge of another "re-do" at the wide receiver position, as Bill Belichick called it in 2013. In addition to preparing an offer sheet for restricted free agent wide receiver Chris Hogan, "all signs point" to the Patriots "making a proposal" to unrestricted free-agent WR Rod Streater, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

UPDATE (3/14/16): Rod Streater is headed to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

As part of his Friday morning column, Reiss speculated that if the Patriots sign Streater and Hogan, they could end up asking Danny Amendola to restructure his contract. The Patriots would save just over $4 million against the cap in 2016 if they cut Amendola, a move which would certainly usher in a "revamped look at receiver," as Reiss described it.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Streater is also expected to visit the New York Jets on Friday. However, according to Spotrac, the Jets currently have the fourth-least cap space in the league. They will need to maneuver some money around to bring Streater aboard, while the Patriots are in the rare position of being able to outbid another team for a free agent.

In addition to Amendola and Julian Edelman, the Patriots still have Keshawn Martin, Aaron Dobson, and Chris Harper at the wide receiver position. Streater was highlighted in a previous column about inexpensive, under-the-radar free agents the Patriots could target.
