Keller @ Large: Ridiculous Speculation About Donald Trump's Running Mate

BOSTON (CBS) - It's ridiculous to be talking about vice-presidential nominees this early in the process. And there was a ridiculous column about who Donald Trump might choose on the website Politico Wednesday.

But since so much about this election cycle so far has been ridiculous, and we certainly live in ridiculous times, we might as well jump in the pool and take a couple of laps.

For starters, let's ridicule some of the names Politico floated, unseriously, I can only assume.

Somehow I doubt that Jeb Bush is interested in spending four to eight years caddying for the man who publicly humiliated him and mocked his family.

And judging from the sour lemon face Gov. Baker makes every time Trump's name is mentioned to him, I bet he also would not be interested.

Politico also floats a name from the world of football, where Trump experienced one of his more notable business failures in the late, unlamented US Football League: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. This might work well if there's a situation, like the alleged WMDs in Iraq, that requires a crack investigator.

Also mentioned: 2008 GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

Unmentioned: former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown, who Trump himself claimed would make a great vice-president.

Advantage, Scott Brown.

Politico quotes a prominent DC pundit saying that "Trump's chances of winning a general election are so small that [for a running mate]… hitching your wagon to his horse could well be a career ender."

Not to mention, a visual redundancy.
