Bill Would Create License Plates For Veterans Who Tested Atomic Weapons
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts veterans who participated in the early days of atomic weapons testing could soon have their own distinctive license plates honoring their service.
The Legislature's Joint Committee on Transportation is holding a public hearing Tuesday at the Statehouse to consider the legislation.
The bill would allow veterans who were involved in the atomic weapons tests to present any evidence they have of their service to get the special plates at no additional cost.
Motorcyclists who participated in the nuclear testing would be given an emblem to put on their license plates.
The surviving spouse of a deceased veteran would be able to keep the plate or emblem for personal use for an additional $20 fee until they remarry or cancel their registration.
