Bill Would Help Massachusetts Meet Greenhouse Gas Emissions Goals
BOSTON (AP) — A bill approved by the Massachusetts Senate would set new targets to help the state meet its greenhouse gas emissions goals.
The new targets would help the state meet its existing 2050 statewide greenhouse gas emissions goals set by the Global Warming Solutions Act.
The bill sets an emissions limit of between 35 and 45 percent below the 1990 emissions level by 2030.
The bill then sets another emissions limit of between 55 and 65 percent below the 1990 emissions level by 2040.
The bill would also create a voluntary coastal buyback program that would let the state purchase property near areas repeatedly damaged by severe weather.
The Senate also passed for the second time a comprehensive management plan to help the state adapt to climate change.
