Cheesy, creamy, and sometimes creative. Mac and cheese is the ultimate comfort food, and these are the 8 Greatest places Phantom has found to get it.
Kicking off the Great 8 is Ballo inside Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Ballo is undoubtedly one of the biggest and best Italian restaurants in all of New England. It’s a 17,000 square-foot space featuring stone columns and soaring arches. Their upscale mac and cheese is just as impressive, even though it’s not listed on the menu. They cart out half a wheel of Grana cheese and light it on fire tableside, then add some fresh torchio pasta, additional cheese, and some shaved black truffle.
The Vintage Grill
Another Great 8 winner is The Vintage Grill on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. This is mac and cheese heaven, offering several different spins. There’s the Burnout sandwich, with decadent mac and cheese nestled between two thick cuts of Texas toast; an indulgent Mac N Cheese Pizza; and for true mayhem in your mouth, try the Muscle Car Mac N Cheese Bites.
Prezo Bar & Grill
Prezo Bar and Grill in Milford makes all the Italian food you love, plus some menu items, you wouldn’t expect, like the super-indulgent burger loaded up with a veritable brick of mac and cheese. It’s a half pound patty, layered with a thick slab of mac and cheese, bacon, American cheese and garlic aioli.
Fireside Grille in Middleboro, Massachusetts is a throwback restaurant that does things the way they’re supposed to be done. Like their spicy, yet satisfying Buffalo Mac N Cheese. This cheesy, tasty dish is made with a blend of cheddar, mascarpone, Monterey Jack, big chunks of chicken, and a Ritz Cracker crust.
Alden Park in Plymouth’s Colony Place Shopping plaza gives diners on the South Shore a sophisticated option for a night out. Case in point, the sophisticated, mouthwatering mac and cheese, loaded up with large chunks of fresh shucked lobster meat.
Another Great 8 winner is City Streets in Waltham, home of the Stuffed Burger. Here they pack patties with anything and everything. But nothing is more pleasing than City Street’s Mac and Cheese Burger. It isn’t just stuffed with some boxed mac. This mac and cheese actually cooks INSIDE the burger – between two four ounce patties that are pressed together. It’s then topped with mac and cheese sauce.
Located in the heart of Weymouth Landing, Passport is THE spot for adventurous eaters looking for a taste of something different from around the globe. Representing the U.S. is this unbelievably delicious Mac and Cheese, made with homemade pasta, corn, and bacon.
Rounding off the Great 8 is Mr. Mac’s in Manchester, New Hampshire. They serve everyone’s favorite comfort food by the skillet. It comes in many forms, from the classic all American Mac n Cheese, to the over the top Taco Mac. Barbecue lovers can go for the Pulled Pork, and the Steak and Cheese Mac is packed with shaved steak, onions, peppers and of course, plenty of cheese.
