Trump To Fox: Drop Dead!

BOSTON (CBS) - "I have bonded with the people of Iowa," claimed Donald Trump during a campaign stop in the first caucus state.

But now Trump says he won't bond with them in the last Iowa debate before caucus day set for Thursday night, after a nasty public spat with debate producer Fox News and anchorwoman Megyn Kelly.

"Fox is playing games, Fox is gonna make a fortune," Trump says. "I'm not a fan of Megyn Kelly, I think she's a third-rate reporter."

Is this for real? Just minutes after announcing his boycott, Trump appeared to soften his stance, telling a crowd that "Fox News is fine, I have no objection to Fox News, but they have to treat people fairly."

End result: from now until 9 p.m. Tuesday (EST), GOP campaign coverage will fixate on whether or not Trump will show, effectively drowning out whatever messages Ted Cruz and other candidates would prefer to promote.

It's the same game Hillary Clinton is playing with her latest Iowa TV ad, in which more than four decades worth of video clips of Clinton advocating for children are stitched together. It's an eyebrow-raising approach that underscores her experience and stature as the country's best-known female politician, reminding voters, especially women, of the history-making choice she would be.

It's crunch time in Iowa. And arguably the two most savvy pols in the field are proving why they deserve that description.
