Keller @ Large: Time To Get On With Life

BOSTON (CBS) - You older fans, you've been down the road we all traveled Sunday, the abrupt, disappointing end to a favorite team's season, many times before.

You know what I know – life will go on, and there will be another season soon.

But for the younger fans, I understand, this it tough. It's like losing a friend, a cause you really cared about, and you can't just shrug it off easily.

So let me take a shot at making you feel at least a little bit better.

For starters, Denver won fair and square, and while people who don't know any better are all over our kicker for missing that extra point, the truth is we had no business keeping it that close. While we place a high value on winning, there's no shame in losing, especially when it's to the better team.

There's also no shame in being a fan of the losing team. In fact, if you're the type of fan who really likes the sport and cares about who wins for reasons other than financial, you should feel proud of that.

I look askance at people who shun at least some level of sports fandom, and wonder if they don't like pets, too.

Spectator sports are great because they bring us together and teach us about life, and that's true whether you win or lose. Our teams do a lot of winning around here, so you may be inexperienced at losing.

If so, here's my advice: stay proud, don't be ashamed, congratulate your friend the Bronco fan and get on with life.

And remember: only three-and-a-half weeks until pitchers and catchers report in Florida.
