Two Men Shot In MBTA Maverick Station

EAST BOSTON (CBS) -- Two people have been shot inside the Maverick MBTA station in East Boston, according to Boston Police.

The incident occurred around 2:30p.m. on Tuesday and began on a packed Blue Line train into Boston. Police say an argument broke out between some men on one of the trains, when one of the men pulled out a gun and shot one of the victims who was standing at the door of the train about to exit.

The argument spilled out onto the platform when a second man was shot. The shooter fled the scene.

Both victims, a 29-year-old man and 43-year-old man, were rushed to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One of the passengers in the train, Martti Vallila, captured the incident on his cell phone and recalled the moment to WBZ-TV.

"Just at that moment I heard a shot, it was a firecracker or a shot," Vallila said. "Then what I saw was the people in my car recoiling away from the doors.

"I stuck my head out to see what was going on and I could see there was a body near the train," Vallila continued. "The third individual looked at our train, and I couldn't tell if he was going to come into our train, he looked at us and then ran up the stairs."

No arrests have been made.

Shuttle buses replaced Blue Line service between Airport and Bowdoin stations, which led to heavy delays during the afternoon.
