Chandler Jones Apologizes For Off-Field Incident: 'I Made A Stupid Mistake'

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones spoke to reporters for the first time since news broke of his bizarre weekend, which reportedly included a "bad reaction" to synthetic marijuana and a trip to the Foxboro police station followed by hospitalization.

He offered a mea culpa for his behavior, without denying any of the details that came out about the story.

"I just want to start off by saying I made a pretty stupid mistake this weekend," Jones said. "Right now, my main focus is becoming the best player I could be, helping the team, and focusing on Kansas City."

Jones fielded additional questions but responded to further inquiries about the incident by reiterating his focus on Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff against the Kansas City Chiefs.

He sounds motivated to redeem himself.

"I'm focused on having probably the biggest game of my life and try just to clear this," he added.

Jones isn't likely to face discipline from the NFL for the incident at all, let alone before Saturday. But that didn't stop fans from calling for a suspension.
