Andover Man Pulls Gun On Snow Plow Driver After Near Crash

ANDOVER (CBS) – An Andover man was arrested after he allegedly pulled an unloaded gun on a snow plow driver during a road rage incident.

Police said Michael McCullom, 51, of Andover was turning onto North Main Street at the same time as a 51-year-old snow plow driver from North Andover.

After the two men nearly crashed, McCullom allegedly followed the plow driver into a parking lot where they had a verbal altercation that turned into a physical confrontation.

During the fight, McCullom pulled out an unloaded gun, police said.

The plow driver, Paul Connelly, said it was a one-sided attack. He claims McCullom cut him off on Route 28 and searched for him before unleashing his anger.

"He had a problem, he had an anger issue of some sort," Connelly said.

He said McCullom used his Range Rover to block his plow into a spot in a parking lot.

"Then he proceeded to throw me on the ground," Connelly said. "He pulled the gun out from under his jacket and put it right in my face."

McCullom was arrested in the parking lot and charged with assault and battery along with assault with a dangerous weapon.

He appeared in Lawrence District Court and was held pending a dangerousness hearing.

McCullom's attorney says he was attacked and pulled out the weapon to defend himself.

The snow plow driver will be summonsed to Lawrence District Court for assault and battery and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

"We understand that these road conditions can be very frustrating for drivers, but this type of behavior is never acceptable," Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe said. "Please be patient while driving and be sure to leave extra time so you can safely arrive at your destination."
