McCourty's Injury Not Season-Ending, But Will Likely Miss Time
BOSTON (CBS) -- Devin McCourty is likely going to miss some games, but the Patriots safety should be able to return in time for the postseason according to reports.
McCourty suffered a sprained ankle in the second half of New England's 27-6 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, but ESPN's Mike Reiss is reporting the injury will not land him on season-ending injury reserve.
The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported early Monday that X-Rays were negative on McCourty's ankle and he should be able to return in time for the playoffs, while The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe cautions that the team is worried he may have suffered a high ankle sprain.
McCourty, one of New England's defensive captains, was one of three Patriots defensive players to suffer an injury in Sunday's win. Defensive tackle Dominique Easley left the game with a left thigh injury in the third quarter while linebacker Jonathan Freeney was seen with a cast on his right hand after the game. Running back LeGarrette Blount also suffered a hip injury in the second quarter and did not return.
