Police: Mass. Man Impersonates Police Officer On Conn. Highway

MIDDLETOWN, CONN. (CBS) --  A Massachusetts man is facing charges after allegedly impersonating a police officer while speeding through traffic on a Connecticut highway.

Police say 21-year-old Antonio Stephens, of Agawam, was driving on I-91 southbound last Thursday afternoon at over 100 miles per hour. He allegedly flashed high beams, blue and red lights in his Lexus in order to pass vehicles in the left lane.

A Connecticut State Police Detective noticed the Lexus approaching him from behind. Stephens allegedly flashed his high beams prompting the detective to move over.

The detective followed the Lexus and radioed for backup. When the Lexus was slowed by heavy traffic, the detective pulled up next to the vehicle and identified himself as a state trooper.

According to police, Stephens identified himself as a Sheriff's Officer in Massachusetts. When the detective asked Stephens what types of emergency he was responding to, Stephens replied that he could not hear him. Police said Stephens then exited the highway and sped away.

After being contacted by police at his Agawam home, Stephens turned himself in to Connecticut state police. He is charged with reckless driving and impersonating a police officer.
