Amendola Returns To Practice, Sounds Optimistic About Return

BOSTON (CBS) -- Danny Amendola was back on the practice field Wednesday, and the receiver sounds fairly optimistic that he'll be able to suit up Sunday when the Patriots host the Eagles.

Amendola missed his first game of the season last Sunday against the Broncos after suffering a left knee injury against the Bills on November 23. Prior to Wednesday's practice, he said he felt good and was eager to hit the field.

"I can't put a number on it, or a percentage, but I feel OK to go out there today and run around," Amendola said at his locker.

The injuries are mounting on the New England offense, with Rob Gronkowski now sidelined with a knee strain and Julian Edelman out for the rest of the regular season with a foot injury.  Amendola became Tom Brady's most trusted target with Edelman out of action, so the quarterback would love to see the receiver make a return soon.

"That would be great," Brady said Wednesday. "We'll see how that goes throughout the week. Danny always tells me that. He always feels good. He's a tough guy. Danny's a warrior, man."

Amendola was listed as questionable for Sunday's game before not making the trip to Denver. His return to practice on Wednesday, even in a limited role, and the fact he spoke with the media are both good signs that he may return against the Eagles.

Amendola is currently third on the Patriots with 49 receptions and 520 receiving yards. He leads the team in both punt returns and kickoff returns.
