Trees For Troops Program Spreads Holiday Cheer To Military Families

WINCHESTER (CBS) -- There's an easy way to show your appreciation for United States troops around the world this holiday season.

For $30, you can send a special tree to service members and their families at more than 65 military bases in the U.S. and across the globe. It's made possible by Trees For Troops, and for over 10 years, Mahoney's Garden Centers in Massachusetts has provided thousands of trees through the program.

"It's not only about saying thank you, but it's often about giving a family a Christmas tree that otherwise
may not have had one," Lauri Mahoney said in a statement.

Mahoney's is trying to beat its donation of 2,203 trees from last year.

The program runs now through Dec. 5. Donors can also include a personal thank you note with the tree.

Mahoney's Garden Centers can be found in Winchester, Tewksbury, Wayland, Concord, Brighton, Falmouth, Osterville and Chelmsford.
