Phantom Gourmet: Great 8 Spots For Big Portions

Everyone knows bigger is better, particularly when you have an appetite like the Phantom Gourmet. These are the 8 Greatest places specializing in big portions.

Hash House A Go Go
Mohegan Sun

Kicking off the Great 8 is Hash House A Go Go. Located inside Mohegan Sun, Hash House is a gigantically fun restaurant with a kitchen that pumps out breakfast, lunch, and dinners that simply shock and awe.
Breakfast is totally out of control, with Bloody Mary's Garnished with everything you need to make a BLT; Eggs Benedict topped with a huge piece of fried chicken and 14-inch pancakes that cover the entire plate.

Fogo De Chao
Copley Square

Another Great 8 winner Fogo de Chao in Copley Square. This upscale Brazilian style steak house has servers circling tables with slow roasted skewers of beef, pork, lamb, and more. Serving slice after slice, of whatever cuts of meat you want to eat.

Benedetti's
Haverhill

Benedetti's in Haverill is a tiny sub shop that makes a larger than life sandwich known as The Rocket. The super long sub measures nearly two feet long and costs around twelve bucks. The shop has been making them for the masses since 1961- and have served so many- they've lost count.

Fatti Macs
Westerly, RI

Fatti Macs in Westerly, Rhode Island, serves 'real food fast'. Everything is made to order, no matter what time of day it is. The breakfast menu offers colossal sandwiches, loaded with meat, cheese and eggs on crusty Italian toast. The Big Brian platter is certainly for big eaters - with eggs, home fries, shredded cheddar, salsa and smoky chipotle sauce. But for the ultimate breakfast, try the Banana Bread French Toast that's sliced thick, battered and griddled on a flat top, then garnished with slices of fresh banana and drizzled with real maple syrup.

Aprile's European
Chelmsford

Aprile's European in Chelmsford is a spinoff of the old European restaurant everybody knew and loved in the North End. While this location most definitely doesn't look like Hanover Street- with its sprawling dining and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a stream - it sure does taste like the Old European, right down to the infamously oversized 25-inch pizza.

Nordic Lodge
Charlestown, RI

Another Great 8 winner is the Nordic Lodge in Charlestown, Rhode Island. This is a culinary destination every food lover must try at least once. From April through December, the hungriest humans from all over the Northeast make a pilgrimage to this remote restaurant to eat, and eat, and eat. Their ultra-luxurious, over 100 item Viking Buffet is highlighted by all you can eat lobster and king crab, along with unlimited shrimp, prime rib, filet mignon, and Haagan-Daaz ice cream.

B'z Breakfast Burgers and Beyond
Smithfield, RI

B'z Breakfast Burgers and Beyond is a little roadside restaurant in Smithfield, Rhode Island serving plate-tipping portions of all the foods you love. But there's no morning meal more intimidating than "B'z Belly Buster Challenge", which gives customers 45 minutes to finish nine eggs, and a pile of pancakes, bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, beans, toast and home fries.

Cruisers
Gardner

Rounding out the Great 8 is Cruisers in Gardner. This quirky malt shop straight out of the 1950s serves big burgers, banana splits and breakfast all day long. For lunch, Cruisers challenges its customers with a burger so big, it would be a feat to eat. It's called the Cadillac burger, but with three pounds of beef topped with eight slices of cheese and a side of fries that weighs in at a pound, it's more like a Monster Truck!
