Keller @ Large: Hitting Her Stride
BOSTON (CBS) - Brand new national polling out Thursday night shows Hillary Clinton firmly in control of the Democratic race for president, leading Bernie Sanders by a whopping 52 to 33% margin. But while the CBS/New York Times survey is good news for the Clinton campaign, it also raises some warning signs.
In the month since Sanders punctured the e-mail story that's been dogging the Clinton campaign, the air seems to have gone out of his candidacy, leaving Hillary in control. The poll shows Democrats now see her as more likely to bring about change and get her policies enacted if elected, as well as better equipped than Sanders to handle international crisis, gun control, and the economy.
But it also flashes a few yellow lights for the frontrunner.
Asked which candidate is likelier to say what they really believe, 62% choose Sanders, while 52% say Clinton, reflecting the credibility problems that plague her more widely among independent and republican voters.
And on a big issue for Democrats and others, Clinton is seen as far more influenced by special interests than Sanders, 84 to 45%.
The bottom line - she may have hit her stride, but the rest of the way will be no cakewalk.
