Windswept Rain On The Way

After a record warm start to the month of November with just a trace of rain, we're in for some big changes in the weather department. So let's get right to it and break down the details…

Rain: Timing & Totals

Moisture to our south is making slow northward progress this morning and will advance to the south coast by early afternoon.  The rest of us should stay dry through the day today, with just a few showers pushing in by the evening. By far the steadiest and heaviest rain falls tonight until midday tomorrow. Leaf clogged storm drains will cause localized ponding of water on the roads and big puddles and don't forget, the leaves get a bit slick when wet, so use caution while driving. There will still be some areas of rain around tomorrow afternoon and evening, but the intensity will be much lighter. Rainfall totals will generally be between 0.5" and 1.5" – although some higher amounts are possible in eastern MA.

2015 Daily Planner

Wind: Gusts & Coastal Impact

The wind starts to ramp up this evening out of the east-northeast, gusting over 20 mph at times. Timing of the peak wind will be overnight through midday tomorrow; 35-45 mph gusts at the coast will be common, with isolated gusts to 50 mph on Cape Cod & the Islands tomorrow morning. Some pockets of isolated damage/power outages may result. The good news is the onshore wind isn't too prolonged. In fact, the wind will blow out of a more northerly direction as early as tomorrow morning – so significant coastal flooding is not anticipated. Nonetheless, the typical coastal communities could see a bit of minor splash-over during Wednesday morning's high tide cycle.

Looking Ahead:

We dry out temporarily Wednesday night into early Thursday before the next front moves in. Expect another round of showers Thursday afternoon & evening. Behind that disturbance, we actually warm up a bit to end the week before cooler air returns this weekend.
