Falmouth Home Owner Shoots At Man Trying To Burn Down House

FALMOUTH (CBS) – A home owner in Falmouth shot at a man who was trying to burn his house down Thursday, police said.

Officers were called to the house on Round Pond Drive at 2:50 a.m. after someone reported an attempted break-in.

By the time police arrived, the home owner told them he found a man in a hooded sweatshirt trying to set his house on fire. The home owner said he fired two shots at the man with his pistol.

The man, said to be about 5-feet 8-inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, ran off.

The home owner's wife put out the small fire with a garden hose. Police said a 3-foot-by-3-foot section of siding was charred.

A short time later, police said the brake lines on the home owner's car were also found severed.

"There was no blood at the scene, however it appears the suspect was not injured during the incident," Police Lt. Douglas DeCosta said in a statement.

"No gunshot victims have visited any hospitals in the past few hours. The male resident is a properly licensed firearms owner. "

Anyone with information is asked to call Falmouth Police at 774-255-4527.
