Iconic Needham Poultry Farm Closing
NEEDHAM (CBS) – A turkey farm that has become a staple of the Needham community over the last 80 years will close its doors for good.
Owen's Poultry Farm will close at some point in the next few months after the owner agreed to sell the land to the town so a new school can be built.
Walter Owen told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe the sale is a bittersweet decision, but added that there is no fourth generation to take over the family farm.
"I think it's sad that the business is closing. It's been open for so long, a family business. I don't know where we're going to get our eggs and chickens now," one customer said.
Earlier this week the town approved the purchase of the land. A $60 million school will be built at the site.
