Medway Teen Killed In Franklin Crash

MEDWAY (CBS) – A high school community in Medway is grieving after a 17-year-old student was killed in a horrible car crash.

It happened on a winding country road in neighboring Franklin, and Saturday friends and classmates left flowers and notes of remembrance at the foot of a scorched tree.

"It wasn't real," friend Lea Guarino told WBZ-TV. "It didn't feel real (because) I saw her yesterday. She was walking with me to my car yesterday, but I know I just have to remember her as the upbeat, funny girl she was, ya know?"

The car burst into flames when it hit the tree. Rescuers and people living nearby were unable to remove Lamson from the car because of that fire. The fire chief says they made valiant rescue efforts.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

"This is a terribly tragic situation, involving the loss of a young life," Police Chief Stephan Semerjian said. "Our hearts go out to the victim's family during this difficult time."

Grief counselors will be at Medway High School on Sunday.
