Walmart Looks To Test Drones For Home Delivery

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (CBS) -- Attention Walmart shoppers: Drone delivery may be coming to the retail supergiant.

Reuters reports that Walmart has asked the Federal Aviation Administration if it can start using drones to test delivery packages and oversee its massive inventory.

So far, Walmart has been only conducting drone tests indoors.

The company said in a letter submitted Monday to the FAA that it's exploring drones as a way to make "deliveries to customers at Walmart facilities, as well as to consumer homes," according to Reuters.

Walmart is not the first retailer to consider using drones for delivery. In 2013, Amazon said it hopes to get packages to customers via drone ins 30 minutes or less, as soon as federal regulations allow.
