Patricia's Leftover Moisture Delivers Rain To New England Wednesday

What a way to start the week…with a big Patriots win and sunny, fall weather! No more 60s in the forecast today though, low to mid 50s will do it this afternoon.  Mostly clear skies and a calm wind tonight will promote good rational cooling, allowing for our temps to tumble into the upper 20s in the coldest suburbs with scattered frost to greet you tomorrow morning (along with a full moon, see graphic below).  Aside from some wispy cirrus clouds increasing during the afternoon tomorrow, it'll be another nice fall day.

2015 Night Sights2

Wednesday, things change. Leftover moisture from what was powerful hurricane Patricia will work in our direction. Expect rain to move in from west to east Wednesday afternoon, picking up in intensity and coverage by the evening. The good news here is the system is a pretty fast mover. Rain will continue, heavy at times, Wednesday night into Thursday morning before pushing off the coastline. Rainfall totals should generally range between 1-2"…but we'll fine tune the expected amounts over the next 24-48 hours.

In terms of wind, southeast gusts should top out between 20-40 mph Wednesday afternoon; not high enough to cause widespread damage but strong enough to bring down a decent chunk of leaves.  Let the raking begin!

The storm drags in some warm air too, we'll flirt with 70 Thursday afternoon as breaks of sun emerge. It's a quick turnaround for the Pats who are playing Thursday Night Football right here on CBS.  The good news is the rain will be out of here by game time.  There may be a brief shower during tailgating followed by clearing skies, a gusty west-southwest breeze and cooling temps (from the low 60s into the middle 50s by the end of the game).

High pressure builds in to end the week meaning a return to sunshine and seasonable air.  Our trick-or-treating forecast looks great too…dry and partly cloudy with temperatures falling through the 40s. And it's one of my favorite weekends of the year coming up – daylight saving time!! I know some may not get as excited I do…but for a middle of the night riser like me, an extra hour of sleep is always welcome. Don't forget to turn those clocks back at 2 AM Sunday.
