Boston Officials Looking To Expand Number Of Snow Farms
BOSTON (CBS) – New Englanders were fascinated all winter, and for some of the summer, with the massive snow piles that were created during a historic winter.
But this year, the piles may not be as large.
Boston officials are looking to increase the number of snow farms throughout the city this winter. Doing so would likely prevent any single snow mountain from growing too large.
A spokesman for Boston Mayor Marty Walsh's office told WBZ-TV that the mountain in South Boston gained the most attention because it lasted for so long.
Last winter, there were 11 snow farms in the city.
The snow farms forced crews into clean up duty when the piles finally melted. With the snow gone, crews discovered a large amount of trash.
Walsh's office said the Department of Public Works is actively trying to increase the number of farms for the upcoming winter to "get as much acreage as possible for use."
BostInno reported that the city has already reached agreements to dump snow on Terminal Street in Charlestown, Franklin Park Golf Course and Reservation Road in Hyde Park.
