Tom Brady Wants To Play For Another 10 Years

BOSTON (CBS) -- Tom Brady says he wants to play for 10 more years.

The way the Patriots quarterback has played to start the 2015 season, he just might.

As he prepares for Sunday's showdown with the New York Jets, Brady was asked Wednesday how much longer he'd like to keep tossing the pigskin on his conference call with the New York media. The 38-year-old said he'd like to keep going for another decade.

"I'd like to play a long time, yeah, a long time. There's a lot that goes into playing well. I've played with a lot of great teammates. But I want to play for a long time, maybe 10 more years. I think that's probably what my goal is," he replied.

Brady is none as one of the fiercest competitors in the game, but 10 years? Really?

"Well, it's not always up to me. That's what my goals are, so that's just what I'm hoping," he said. "And it will take a lot to achieve that. Obviously a team has to want you, but I think that's... you know, I love playing this sport. I love making a commitment to my teammates and my coaches, and hopefully I can do it for a long time."

It's kind of hard picturing what a 48-year-old Tom Brady would look like on the field, but he hasn't slowed down much (if at all) in his 16th season in the league. Brady is off to one of the best starts of his career this season, completing 70.6 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,699 yards, 14 touchdowns and just one interception. New England is 5-0 and the offense has scored 183 points so far, the most through five games in franchise history.

That one interception came off the fingertips of receiver Julian Edelman during Sunday night's win over the Colts. Asked if he was holding that one against his usually reliable receiver, Brady couldn't pass up on the chance to have a bit of fun before singing Edelman's praises.

"Yeah, I haven't spoken to him all week, so he knows I'm mad at him," Brady joked. "He's good. He's a former quarterback. Those things happen. He's made so many great catches and run after catches, and he's been a phenomenal player for us. I love Jules. Jules is another guy who has accomplished so much. [He] came in as a quarterback, switched to receiver, has really built himself into what he is. He's got an incredible work ethic. You know, he and Darrelle [Revis] had a lot of great practice interactions last year where they were going one-on-one against one another, so he's a guy who's definitely a huge playmaker for us and we're going to need him to make a bunch of plays on Sunday."

Revis is just one of the many talented New York defensive players that Brady and the rest of the New England offense has to game plan for this week, as the two teams will battle for first place in the AFC East Sunday at Gillette Stadium. The Jets are off to an impressive 4-1 start, thanks mostly to the stellar play of their defense.

"It's a tough team to prepare for. They do a lot of different things, a lot of scheme challenges, and I'd kind of characterize them as a very aggressive defense," said Brady. "So they've got guys at all positions. They've got one of the best D-lines in the league. They've got great linebackers and one of the best secondaries in the league with Darrelle and Antonio Cromartie and Buster Skrine and [Marcus] Gilchrist and [Calvin] Pryor. So they're loaded with players, and that's, I think, why they're tops in the league in basically every category that you look at. So it's a big challenge, and hopefully we can nail things down by the time the game kicks off Sunday."
