Cambridge Library Holding 'Stand With Ahmed' Clock Building Event

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – An upcoming event in Cambridge urges participants to display their creative side as they show support for a Texas teenager who was arrested at his school for bringing a homemade clock that was mistaken for a bomb by a teacher.

Ahmed Mohamed gained national attention after the incident at his Irving, Texas, school.

Charges were dropped after the situation was cleared up. Mohamed found himself in the national spotlight, and earned an invitation to MIT and the White House among other offers for his creativity.

Cambridge Public Library is holding an event on October 24 where participants 10-18 years old can come and build their own clock.

"Are you a tinkerer too? Stand with Ahmed and build your own clock!" a flyer for the event reads.

During the event, participants can learn what's inside a clock, build a clock circuit and engineer the clock's housing.

Participants should sign up in advance. The event runs at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the main library's Curious George Room.
