Video Shows Worcester School Bus Driver Losing Control Before Crash

WORCESTER (CBS) -- A video released by Worcester Public Schools on Thursday shows a driver losing control of a school bus before hitting two cars.

The crash happened on the morning of Sept. 9 when no students were on board. The two cars were heavily damaged, and one was pushed into a house.

"The video revealed that the driver had not fastened her seat belt prior to operating the bus as required by federal regulations," Worcester police said. "When the driver attempted to turn left out of the school driveway she fell out of the seat and lost control of the vehicle."

The 46-year-old bus driver suffered hand, arm and leg injuries.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette identified the bus driver as Jean Barbieri, of Millbury, and said her driver's license and commercial driver's license were revoked indefinitely following the crash because she posed an "immediate threat" to public safety. The newspaper also said her driving record contains three speeding violations and three surchargeable accidents.
