Heroin Overdose Cited After NH Man Hits Car, Tree, Fire Hydrant

SALEM, N.H. (AP) — Police say a New Hampshire man was on heroin when he crashed his car in a mall parking lot.

Salem Police say an officer saw a car stopped against a light pole Sunday evening at the Mall at Rockingham Park. A 28-year-old Atkinson man was passed out behind the wheel with what police are calling heroin beside him.

Police say an officer attempted to get the driver to regain consciousness. They say the driver became startled and tried to drive away. Surveillance video shows he crashed into a parked car, ran over a tree and hit a fire hydrant.

No one was injured.

The man was charged with reckless conduct, driving under the influence of drugs and possessing heroin.

He was held on $2,500 bail and is set to be arraigned Monday.
