Irish Boy Who Sought Lung Transplant In Boston Dies

BOSTON (CBS) – A four-year-old boy from Ireland who came to Boston seeking a double lung transplant this summer has died.

In August, WBZ-TV's Liam Martin reported on Cian McDonnell-Lynch's battle with the bone marrow disorder called Dyskeratosis Congenita.

It eventually damaged his lungs and his family spent about everything they had to bring him to Boston Children's Hospital.

Cian was not able to get the transplant in Boston.

He went back to Ireland and died Monday holding hands with his mother, father and sister.

On the Hope For Cian Facebook page, his family wrote:

"Our beautiful boy is with the angels now. He fought so hard. Heaven is so lucky to have him. We are broken hearted. His Mammy, Daddy and big sister Chloe held his hand until the end. Fly high our beautiful boy where there will be no more suffering or pain."
