National Taco Day: Police, Firefighters Chow Down For Good Cause

WEYMOUTH (CBS) -- It's National Taco Day, and a local Mexican restaurant chain is celebrating by holding a number of taco-eating contests featuring first responders around the state.

In Weymouth, it was a fight to the finish as five police officers squared off against five firefighters to see who could finish the legendary two-pound giant taco at Margarita's.

The winner was 28-year-old police officer James Aldoupolis.

"Delicious," he said. "Actually it wasn't that bad. It went down really easy."

The police department won a $250 donation to the charity of their choice, which in this case was the Weymouth food pantry.

There was also a taco showdown between firefighters and cops in Methuen, and once again, the police came out on top.

Sean Casey is a manager at Margarita's, and said the restaurant is happy to give back.

"Good people from the community coming together for a good cause," he said. "That's what we're all about."
