Judge Approves $12.5M Settlement In 38 Studios Case

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A judge has approved a $12.5 million partial settlement in the lawsuit over the state's failed $75 million deal with Curt Schilling's video game company 38 Studios.

Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein on Friday approved the settlement by four defendants in the lawsuit: two former leaders of the state economic development agency that struck the deal with Schilling's company, one of the agency's lawyers and his law firm.

Schilling and others opposed the settlement, but Silverstein called it a good faith settlement and overruled their objections.

It's the second settlement in the case. Silverstein previously approved a $4.4 million deal by another lawyer and his firm.

The case continues against Schilling and others at the company, as well as others who are involved.
