Newton Teen On A 30-Day Challenge To Farm His Own Food

NEWTON (CBS) -- Noah Kopf, 16, of Newton, is a student by day but a farmer at heart.

"I started working with agriculture because I love food a lot and I love cooking. I've always loved cooking," Kopf said.

In fact, the junior at Newton South High School loves food so much, he's challenging himself for 30 days to only eat food he's planted and grown from his gardens both at school and in his own back yard. He's calls it Homegrown 30.

"The point of this project is to get people thinking about local agriculture as something that can change how people eat," Kopf said.

You name it, he grows it. With the help of fellow classmates and his family, Noah has been planning, prepping and planting for this project for the past year.

He even has his own chickens. Noah admits it's been hard to resist other food, he encourages other people to try it.

"It's helped me understand the value of food," Noah said.
