Several Hurt In 2-Vehicle Rollover Crash On Route 495 In Mansfield

MANSFIELD (CBS) -- Several people, including children, were seriously hurt in a two-vehicle rollover crash on Route 495 North in Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened near Exit 13 shortly before 3 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a 53-year-old Plainville woman driving a 2012 Lexus RX was traveling north on Route 495 when she lost control of the vehicle and veered right into the break down lane, State Police say.

She tried to reenter the right travel lane, but struck the back of a 2014 Nissan Armada that was also traveling north, police said.

Both vehicles rolled over several times before coming to a rest in the woods.

The Plainville woman was MedFlighted to Massachusetts General Hospital. She suffered serious injuries.

Five children and two adults were inside in the Nissan at the time of the crash.

A 42-year-old Dudley man and one child were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

A 44-year-old Dudley woman was MedFlighted to Massachusetts General Hospital. She was critically injured.

Four children were rushed by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The victims' names have not been released by State Police.

Route 495 North was shut down for around 45 minutes for the two MedFlights.

The three lanes reopened around 5:10 p.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by State Police.

Troopers were assisted on scene by Mansfield and Foxboro firefighters and EMS, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

As of late Saturday night, no charges had been filed.
