Don Orsillo, NESN Parting Ways
BOSTON (CBS) – The shakeup within the Red Sox organization has extended to the broadcast booth as well.
Red Sox play-by-play man Don Orsillo will be leaving NESN at the conclusion of the current season.
Orsillo took over the play-by-play job in 2001 after calling minor league baseball games in the Mets organization and American Hockey League games for the Springfield Indians and Falcons, according to the Red Sox website.
In his debut with NESN, Orsillo was behind the microphone calling Hideo Nomo's no-hitter versus Baltimore.
The Melrose native won an Emmy for outstanding play-by-play in 2003.
Orsillo has worked for TBS in the postseason in recent years as an announcer on national telecasts.
According to a Boston Globe report, Orsillo's departure comes in part due to conflict with NESN management.
NESN announced Tuesday night that Dave O'Brien will replace Orsillo beginning in 2016.
For the last nine years, O'Brien has been the radio play-by-play voice for the Red Sox.
