Man Goes On Crime Spree From Mass. To Ohio, Police Say

BOXBOROUGH (AP) — A man allegedly stabbed his relative, raped a woman and then drove both victims from his home in Massachusetts to Ohio before authorities captured him following a chase, police said.

The suspect, who is not yet being identified, is jailed following a Sunday morning standoff in Ohio in which he also managed to steal a Pike County Sheriff's deputy car.

The crime spree began on Thursday when police said the suspect stabbed his male relative several times at their Boxborough apartment. He then allegedly assaulted and raped a woman who was also in the home. Police said the suspect forced both victims into a car and drove about 800 miles from Massachusetts to Ohio.

Boxborough police said the suspect managed to steal a sheriff's deputy vehicle and led authorities there on a short police chase on Sunday morning. He was captured following the pursuit and a standoff and is currently jailed in Pike County on theft and escape charges.

It is not known exactly where in Ohio the suspect was captured.

In a statement, Boxborough Chief of Police Warren Ryder called the case "deeply disturbing." The spree remains under investigation in both Massachusetts and Ohio.

A Boxborough police spokesman said authorities executed a search warrant on the Swanson Road apartment where the alleged stabbing and rape occurred. Findings of that search were not available.

Police said the stabbing victim is in serious but stable condition. The rape victim's condition is unknown. Both have not been identified.
