Patriots Trade Jordan Devey To San Francisco For TE Asante Cleveland
BOSTON (CBS) -- Cue up the sad tuba.
The New England Patriots traded offensive lineman Jordan Devey to the San Francisco 49ers for tight end Asante Cleveland, the team announced on Tuesday.
Devey drew the ire of Patriots fans early last season for his ineffectiveness in protecting Tom Brady. They also had a lot of fun at his expense when they found out the undrafted guard was a tuba player.
As for who New England is getting in return, Cleveland is a second-year player who went undrafted in 2014 out of the University of Miami. He signed with the 49ers in May 2014, but was released in late August and signed to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster and debuted on September 21, but was targeted just one time in six games played last season.
Cleveland had three receptions for 10 yards in San Francisco's preseason opener against the Houston Texans last week.
The Patriots also announced that they have released linebacker L.J. Fort and tight end Logan Stokes on Tuesday.
