Green Line Countdown Clocks Installed At Kenmore MBTA Station

BOSTON (CBS) -- The MBTA has installed new countdown clocks for train arrivals inside the Kenmore Square station.

Commuters who travel from the Kenmore Square T station now have a new tool to help them know when the next train is coming.

A recorded announcement lets passengers know what the electronic countdown sign says.

Laura, a frequent Green Line T rider, says "I think it's helpful."

"Usually you just wait and wait and wait," she said.

A similar train tracking system was unveiled at the Newton Centre T stop in April.

MBTA General Manager Frank DePaola says installing the GPS system for underground use was a bit more challenging.

"They lose the signal, so we've put in devices that can pick up that signal for our own use and put it into the system that calculates the train arrival," he said.

Similar signs at the Hynes station will be activated next week.
