Ipswich Officers Hit By Car While Working Hamilton Construction Detail

HAMILTON (CBS) – Two police officers working a construction detail were injured Tuesday after being struck by a car in Hamilton.

The crash took place at 10 a.m. on Route 1A in Hamilton when Officer David Harrell and Officer Zachery Bird, both from the Ipswich Police Department, were working a construction detail.

Both officers were standing on the side of the road when a car rear-ended one of the officer's personal vehicles, which was parked on the side of the road.

Police said a 23-year-old Salem man was responsible for the crash.

Bird suffered what police said are "extensive" injuries to his legs. Harrell was treated for minor injuries and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
