Marshfield Residents Restricting Public Access To Rexhame Beach

MARSHFIELD (CBS) -- Residents on four private roads leading to Rexhame Beach are restricting public access to beach goers while the issue of who owns the beach lingers in court.

Things have gotten so heated that someone tore down a locked gate a Kent Avenue resident had put up, stopping visitors from walking by his house and on to the most familiar footpath to the beach, according to WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe.

DPW Superintendent Thomas Reynolds says the town may put up directional markers leading to an unmarked beach access that's away from the private roads.

"Once we have the boundaries staked and we can have a defined path, then we will put up some signs," he said. "There are a couple other roads in the area that we're going to look at for beach access."
