Natick Names Street After Fallen General
NATICK (CBS) -- There's a new street in Natick, or at least one with a distinguished new name: General Greene Avenue.
It's the street that leads to the Natick Labs, or as they call it nowadays: "The Natick Soldier Systems Center."
Once Kansas Street, Gen. Greene Avenue is named after Major General Harold Greene, who led the center from 2009 through 2012. Greene was killed in Kabul by a rogue Afghan soldier nearly a year ago.
On Friday, several hundred people were on hand to watch the unveiling of the new street sign, and a memorial to Greene.
His son, Lt. Matt Greene flew in from Ft. Hood for the ceremony.
"He was a great father, and a very intelligent man," he said. "He was very technology oriented, and tried to lead the military in advancing their systems."
While at Natick Labs, Greene was known for his infectious laughter…and his ability to connect with people.
Gen. L. Scott Rice said "He told me once, never forget what is important…everything is about people."
