Family Posts Desperate Plea For Kidney Donation On Their Car

AUBURN (CBS) – An Auburn family is getting creative in their desperate search for a kidney donor.

Pete Lyford is in end stage kidney disease. He has dialysis at home every five hours.

His wife Jennifer said relatives with the right blood type are not healthy enough to be donors.

So, she took her quest to the road, by painting her plea on the family's 2005 Ford Focus:

"My husband needs a kidney. O blood. Please call 508-223-6851. Please Share!!"

Jennifer has received 24 calls so far. She's referred them to a screener at a local hospital.

"We've had such a good response over the past week or so," she told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

When the Lyfords do find a donor, they say their insurance will pick up all the medical costs. They're also raising money thru a Go Fund Me page to cover the donor's lost wages.

"We don't want it to cost them anything," she said.
