State Extending Summer Hours At Some Pools, Athletic Facilities

BOSTON (AP) — The state is extending summer hours at some swimming pools and athletic facilities around the state.

Gov. Charlie Baker says the goal is to offer more recreational opportunities for children to promote a healthy, fun and safe summer.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation says the longer hours will be in effect during certain evenings at a total 16 pools and state-run athletic complexes in Boston, Chicopee, Everett, Malden and Worcester. On some evenings pools will stay open as late as 8 p.m., and some parks and basketball courts will be open and lighted until 10 p.m.

The agency says it is also expanding its free summer movie program for families to new locations in Boston, Worcester, Chelsea, Lawrence, Taunton and Fall River.
