Report: Ryan Spooner Signs Two-Year, $1.9 Million Contract With Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins were not very active in the NHL free-agent frenzy on Wednesday afternoon, but Don Sweeney was able to lock up one of his own.

Restricted free agent Ryan Spooner signed a two-year contract that will pay him $1.9 million total, according to TVA's Renaud Lavoie.

The $950,000 average annual value could turn out to be a bargain for Boston. The 23-year-old forward played in 29 games last year, posting 8-10-18 totals. In his young career, he has 29 points in 56 games. In his AHL career, he's registered 136 points (39-97-136) in 150 games.

Part of Spooner's issue with getting regular playing time came from a logjam at the center position. But with Carl Soderberg now in Colorado, the third center spot seemingly has opened up for Spooner. While Milan Lucic is also gone from the roster, Spooner looked like he belonged in the NHL when he spent time with Lucic and David Pastrnak on his wings for a stretch last season.

Forward Brett Connolly remains the Bruins' lone restricted free agent after the signing of Spooner.
